The process under which an applicant’s FAFSA information is selected by the U.S. Department of Education or a school and determined to be accurate (true and complete within certain parameters) or inaccurate. The process may require students provide the college(s) with a copy of signed tax forms, W-2 forms, and a verification worksheet, among other items. A college cannot officially award financial aid until verification is complete.
